Silicon Carbide Description

Silicon Carbide
Silicon Carbide (SiC) is produced in an electric furnace at temperatures in excess of 2200?C. SiC is produced by fusing coke and (http://maplered.com) high purity silica sand (http://maplered.com) . The result is the formation of SiC crystals which are very hard. SiC also has a very high thermal conductivity and (http://maplered.com) is very strong at elevated temperatures.
SiC is used in a variety of industries including Bonded Abrasives (grinding wheels), Coated Abrasives (sand (http://maplered.com) paper and (http://maplered.com) cloth), wire sawing Granite (http://tanbrown.org) , blasting grain, polishing compounds, refractories, structural ceramics, heating elements, and (http://maplered.com) other applications.
